Video for Symposium

Westlake Academy hosted their first ever National Symposium. This is where groups of kids from International schools from all over the globe join in one place to discuss World issues and attempt at coming up with possible solutions using their discussion and group techniques. As a junior, I didn't have the opportunity to actually take part in the symposium, but I still found a way to be involved! I met with the Argentina kids the first night they got into town and enjoyed showing them around Roanoke and enjoy the Texas atmosphere. Throughout the week, I made friends with different kids ranging from Kansas, to China, to Russia. It was really neat to see how all our cultures meshed together! At the end of the symposium, it was time for the kids partaking in it to make a published video using imovie to share what they learned and discuss an issue and leader. I was asked by Mrs. Maru to help them with the actual editing part. On March 23rd and 24th I came up to the school and helped them out with these. I was suprised to find that a lot of the kids knew how to use this software already, but I was able to teach them a few other things to help them edit and add music etc.. Not only was I helping using my creative skills, but I also was building friendships in the process. I still keep in touch with a few of them, and it is cool to know someone from almost every continent. Throughout the experiences and through talking with the different nations, I increased my knowledge of global issues and even issues in the United States that everyone always overlooks. They would talk about their corrupt societies, but in particular, the Argentina students would talk about their past dictatorship and the condition of their country in present day because of it.
Here are some pictures from the National Symposium with a few of the kids I met!!!
